  • Professional History:  Practiced in Fremont since 
    1983, became owner of Irvington Pet Hospital in 
    1990.

  • Special Interests:  Internal medicine, soft tissue 
    surgery.

  • Hobbies:  Golf, volleyball, hiking in Yosemite.

  • Pets:  Two Collies (Kaylen and Tavish), two cats 
    (Meisha and Lila)

  • Married:  To Ted Rue, D.V.M. owner of Ardenwood 
    Pet Hospital.

Carol Mertens, D.V.M.

  • Education:  B.A. Biology 1976 UCSD; D.V.M. degree 
    1983 Purdue University.

  • Professional History:  Practiced in San Jose since 
    1983, joined staff of Irvington Pet Hospital in 1992.

  • Special Interests:  Internal medicine, soft tissue 
    surgery.

  • Hobbies:  Fishing, hiking, sporting events, gardening.

  • Interests:  Family orientated; involved in community 
    services, attending continuing education seminars.

  • Pets:  Three cats, two parakeets, three aquariums and 
    an outdoor fishpond that's leaking again.

We love to board cats!

We strive to make our boarding cats as happy and relaxed as possible.  Our cat ward is completely separated from the dogs.  Each cat condo features a two-room arrangement separating the living room from the litter box area.  Please come see our boarding facility.

We love to board dogs!

Our facility has spacious, clean condos and runs.  The dogs are walked three times daily (twice on weekends).  You have the peace of mind that should anything arise regarding their health while boarding, we are right here to take care of them.  Come see our boarding facility.
