3 Advantages of Pet Boarding with Us

Three Reasons to Board Your Pet with Our Fremont Veterinarian
If you must depart on a long-distance business trip or your dream vacation has finally come along, you can ask a neighbor or family member to feed and look in your pet from time to time. However, you will probably rest a great deal easier if you rely on professional dog boarding or cat boarding at our animal hospital. Here are three advantages to such an arrangement:
1. Your pet receives reliable supervision. The neighbor’s kid may or may not remember to refill the water bowl on those “dog days” of August, and even the most responsible family member can forget to administer insulin or another critical daily medication. Your pet may even decide to dash out the front door as soon as your friend opens it. Our pet boarding service performs its tasks professionally and reliably to prevent these and other common mistakes.
2. Your pet might become ill during your trip. If you dog or cat accidentally poisons himself or develops a critical illness, a once-daily visit from a friend might come too late. The comfortable, caring pet boarding environment provided by our skilled veterinary team ensures that your pet can receive immediate treatment for any medical issue that comes up. We can also give vaccinations or perform other routine care procedures during this time if need be.
3. Constant human interaction reassures your pet. Leaving the radio on in your absence may provide reassurance for a few hours, but dogs and cats need the emotional reassurance of constant companionship. Round-the-clock boarding means that your pet has ready access to the affection, playtime and exercise that keeps his tail wagging until you can return to him.

Holiday Safety Tips for Pet Owners

Holiday Dangers Alert from Our Fremont Veterinarian
At Irvington Pet Hospital part of our mission statement is that we help pets live a longer, happier and healthier life. Unfortunately, many pets are brought into our vet hospital during the holidays because they’ve been exposed to some type of holiday item or foods that are dangerous or even toxic. To keep your pets safe, here are some items to keep away from them so you can avoid an unexpected trip to our animal hospital.
Five Holiday Items to Keep Away from Pets
Many treats we humans find so enticing during the holidays, as well as many of the decorations we put up, are often dangerous to pets.
Holiday Food Fare: Keep nuts, chocolate, and raw bread dough out of reach so they are not tempted to sample. Immediately put away any leftovers so they do not tempt your dog or cat. We also recommend not sharing human food with pets in general.
Festive Drinks and Toasts: Pets may become ill if they ingest alcohol, so be sure drinks aren’t left out and spills are wiped up quickly. Never give a pet alcohol for any reason.
Plants and Flowers: While staples of the holiday season, mistletoe, holly, lilies and poinsettias can be harmful, and in some cases lethal, to pets if ingested. Keep all of these plants in areas that pets cannot access.
Trees: The Christmas tree itself can be dangerous to pets. If pets chew on the pine needles or drink the water from the tree, they can become very ill. Similar to holiday plants, we advise pet owners to put the tree in a part of the house that the pet does not have access to.
Tinsel and Trimmings: Cats may like the appeal of tinsel, but it can become obstructed if they eat it, so it’s best to avoid hanging it on your tree. Also, do not hang ornaments low on the tree as the ornaments and the ornament hooks often draw the attention of curious cats.
Be Prepared and You Will Keep Your Pet Safe
As your Fremont veterinarian, we know that it’s not easy to avoid all of the potential pet pitfalls with everything else you’re doing at this busy time. Something else you may want to consider to keep your pet safe is boarding. Our dog boarding and cat boarding services can make sure your pet is safe and secure while you enjoy your family and friends, or take that holiday vacation.
Happy holidays to you and your pets!

Tips for Pet Boarding
Leaving your pet for an extended period of time can cause stress and separation anxiety for your pet. However, our Fremont veterinarians have suggested a number of tips to help ease your pet’s anxiety. First, start bringing out your suitcase weeks in advance of your trip. Second, be sure to call our vet hospital early and speak to our veterinarian to let us know your pet boarding needs. Third, let us know your pet's likes and dislikes. Fourth, if your pet has a favorite toy that may provide him with comfort, bring it along when you board him.
